The Wisdoms Project

This is the concept that has always pushed me to achieve the results I wanted.  It’s an inner force that is so natural to me.  I just can’t conceive of not continuing to strongly pursue something that I want until either I get it or I make the deliberate decision that it’s not worth the effort, the sacrifice or the benefit.

The first “Wisdom” below is one of my four all-time favorites.

Nothing in the world can take the place of perseverance.
Talent can not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent.
Genius can not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.
Education can not; the world is full of educated derelicts.
Perseverance and determination alone are omnipotent.
Calvin Coolidge

“No” is just an obstacle on the way to “Yes.”

Sometimes it takes twenty years to become an overnight success.
Eddie Cantor

First they ignore you.
Then they ridicule you.
Then they fight you.
Then you win.
Mohandas Gandhi

Whenever you’re sitting across from some important people and you want to be less intimidated, just picture them sitting there in their underwear.
Joseph Kennedy

Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions.
Small people always do that
….but the really great make you feel that you too, can become great.
Mark Twain

Dream openly.
Speak what you want.
And if someone doesn’t listen to you….
….find someone who will.

I think and I think for months and years. Ninety-nine times the conclusion is false. The hundredth time I am right.
Albert Einstein

When things go wrong as they sometimes will....
when the road you're trudging seems all uphill....
when funds are low and debts are high....
when you want to smile, but have to sigh....
when care is pressing you down a bit....
rest if you must, but don't you quit.
Success is failure turned inside out....
the silver tint of the clouds of doubt.
And you can never tell how close you are....
it may be near when it seems afar.
So, stick to the fight when you're hardest hit.
It's when things go wrong that you mustn't quit.

The truth is that our finest moments are most likely to occur when we are feeling deeply uncomfortable, unhappy or unfulfilled.  For it is only in such moments, propelled by our discomfort, that we are likely to step out of our ruts and start searching for different ways or truer answers.
                                                                 M. Scott Peck

The difference between perseverance and obstinacy is that….
one comes from a strong will
and the other from a strong won’t.
Henry Ward Beecher

It is always too soon to quit.

When you have absolutely exhausted all the possibilities remember this….
you haven't.

The person who moved the mountain began by carrying away small stones.
    Chinese Proverb

Some succeed because they are destined to.
Most succeed because they are determined to.

You can’t keep determined people down:

Albert Einstein did not speak until he was four, did not read until he was seven and was refused admittance to the Zurich Polytechnic School.
Louis Pasteur ranked 15th out of 22 in his college chemistry class.
Isaac Newton did very poorly in grade school.
Auguste Rodin failed three times to gain admission to art school.
Leo Tolstoy flunked out of college.
Henry Ford went broke more than once before he finally succeeded.
Babe Ruth struck out more than any other player.
Winston Churchill failed 6th grade and did not achieve the office of Prime Minister until he was sixty-two.
Richard Hooker submitted his novel “MASH” to twenty-one publishers before one finally accepted it.
R. H. Macy opened and closed six stores in New York before one was a success.
Wilma Rudolph removed the metal brace from her paralyzed leg when she was nine and after many years of hard work and lost races she won three Olympic Gold Medals.
Robert Sherwood failed freshman English at Harvard and went on to win three Pulitzer Prizes for his plays.

If at first you don't succeed, before you try again
….stop to figure out what you did wrong.
    Leo Rosten

Vitality shows not only in the ability to persist,
but in the ability to start over.
                           F. Scott Fitzgerald

Knowing trees….I understand the meaning of patience.
        Knowing grass….I can appreciate persistence.
Hal Borland

The human mind treats a new idea the same way the body treats a strange protein:
initially it rejects it.
P.B. Medawar

Winners are ordinary people with extraordinary determination.

Heroes are no braver than ordinary people
….but they are braver five minutes longer.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

Cynics call it denial. I call it determination.
                                     Joe Delponti

Perseverance is a great element of success.
If you knock long enough and loud enough at the gate,
you are sure to wake up somebody.
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

To be a star….you must shine your own light, follow your own path, and don’t worry about the darkness….for that is when stars shine brightest.

We can only appreciate the miracle of a sunrise
if we have waited in the darkness.

Courage does not always roar.
Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at
the end of the day saying,
                                     “I will try again tomorrow.”
Mary Anne Radmacher

Our greatest glory is not in ever falling, but in rising every time we fall.

Success consists of getting up just one more time than you fall.
                      Oliver Goldsmith

Many of life’s failures are experienced by people who did not realize
how close they were to success when they gave up.
Thomas Edison

It’s not that I’m so smart, it’s just that I stay with problems longer.

….that is still progress.
    Henri Frederic Amiel

To this moment however,
I have found a thousand ways that don’t work.
Thomas Edison

We are not interested in the possibility of defeat.
                                Queen Victoria

Fight for what you believe in until Hell freezes over
and then continue the fight on the ice.
                      Russell Long

I know of no higher fortitude than stubbornness
in the face of overwhelming odds.
                 Louis Nizer

God grant me the courage to change the things I can change,
the serenity to accept those I cannot change,
and the wisdom to know the difference.
But God, also grant me the courage not to give up on what I think is right
even though I think it is hopeless.
