I have always believed that nothing of consequence happens until somebody makes a decision. Since I want things to happen, I have never feared making decisions. (It’s the suspense of not knowing the outcome that I hate.)
Determining a plan of action and taking that all-important first step is going to lead down one of three paths to the same end: the desired result straight away; the desired result after some course corrections; or the desired result after going back to the beginning, fixing the initial screw-up and starting all over again. Whatever the path, I say….let’s make a decision and get on with it.
Success is never final….and failure never fatal. It's courage that counts.
A “no” uttered from the deepest conviction is better and greater than a “yes” merely uttered to please, or what is worse, to avoid trouble.
Establish objectives. If you have nowhere to go, you will certainly get there!
Set your strategies. You cannot be all things to all people.
Fish where the fishing is best and you will eat better than those who try to fish everywhere at once.
Have a plan. Hip-shooters die young. Build your plans and execute them in one straight, continuous line.
Be sure you are right….then go ahead.
Lead, follow….or get out of the way.
Desire creates power.
What this power is I cannot say. All I know is that it exists and it becomes available only when a person is in that state of mind in which they know exactly what they want and is fully determined not to quit until they find it.
Alexander Graham Bell
The first step to getting the things you want out of life is this:
Decide what you want.
To know what you prefer, instead of humbly saying amen to what the world tells you you ought to prefer, is to have kept your soul alive.
Robert Louis Stevenson
There is no more miserable human being than one
….in whom nothing is habitual but indecision.
The risk of a wrong decision is preferable to the terror of indecision.
All our resolves and decisions are made in a mood or frame of mind which is certain to change.
A wish changes nothing. A decision changes everything.
The person who insists on seeing with perfect clearness before deciding
…. never decides.
Henri Frederic Amiel
Some people say a decision has to marinate before you can make it. Sometimes that’s true. But you’ll never have all the information you need to make a decision. If you did, it would be a foregone conclusion, not a decision.
A committee is a group of people that keep minutes and loses hours.
As you go through life, when you come to a fork in the road….take it.
Don’t spend a dollar’s worth of time on a ten-cent decision.
I never heard Washington or Franklin speak to a subject for more than ten minutes at a time, nor to anything but the main point which was to decide the question. They laid their shoulders to the great points, knowing that the little ones would follow of themselves.
To act and act wisely when the time for action comes ....to wait and wait patiently when it is time for repose….puts you in accord with the rising and falling tides of affairs. Ignorance of this law results in periods of inappropriate emotion….and you become the victim of the tides when you should be their master.
Some people think that it's holding on that makes one strong.
Sometimes it's letting go.
Most of the time, especially at the beginning….
“No” is a reaction, not a position.
To do nothing is sometimes a good remedy.
Absolute rules are a device of cowardice to escape the difficulty of decision when an exceptional case occurs.
John Stuart Blackie
The sad truth is that a lot of evil is done by people who never make up their minds to be good or evil.
The hottest places in Hell are reserved for those who,
in times of great moral crisis, maintain their neutrality.
Never be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure suffering and humiliation.
We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim.
Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.
The right person is the one who seizes the moment.
Johann von Goethe
Carpe diem. (Seize the day.)
